Has anyone seen a double stack .38 super? I sure haven't, and I think it would be a good idea to make one if you can get around any problems with the semi-rimmed cartridge. I would just love to see a .38 super with the capacity of a 9mm. Think about what you could do with 18 rounds of .38 super.
My theory on why there haven't been more double stack .38 supers is because the most popular platform for the .38 super is the 1911, and double stack 1911's don't sell as well as single stack.

Well, 18 rounds compared to 10 would be better for competition shooting, or just having fun at the range. There's also tactical reasons for more rounds.

Double column .38 Supers are quite common in USPSA/IPSC competition.
There is not much market for them otherwise, people start worrying about the price of ammunition versus 9mm.

For those that reload, the cost of .38 super compared to 9mm is almost completely insignificant. Sadly most shooters don't reload. The cost is probably the main reason the 9x23 Winchester never took off.

Look for the EAA Witness Elite Match in .38Super. About the best $500 gun on the market, but don't expect support worth anything from EAA. The Witness standard in steel frame is a good option if the budget is really tight, but the Elite Match is more than worth the price difference.

EAA sucks for service, or so I've heard, but the Tangfolios are great guns anyway. They were the ones who made the Jericho 941 for IMI and I'm guessing at least started out making the Baby Eagle, I don't know if Magnum Research actually makes them now or what.

So super?

An alternative for your high-cap super would be a 357 Sig. No rims, no problems, good feeding of a bottleneck round, better bullet selection in factory ammo, and higher velocity. However I understand your desire for something off the common trail, I like to pop tin cans with a .458 "Mangl'em"

I was shooting my double stack 38 super EAA Elite Match today. Worked great. Every time I shoot mine I wonder why I don't shoot it more often.
