.38 Super to .45 conversion?

Now, I have absolutely no intentions of ever doing this myself, but a buddy's girlfriend has to have a high polished, nickle-plated 1911 style pistol. Problem is, the one we can find is the Rock Isalnd Armory 1911 in .38 Super.
I have no problem with this cartridge, however, she also wants this gun in a .45...
Can you convert a .38 Super 1911 to .45?

My personal recomendation was to buy a .45 1911 and send it to someone like Robar to get the finish that she wants...
 
Yes you can convert a .38 Super to .45 ACP, but if it's done right the conversion is neither easy nor inexpensive... :uhoh:

This is a much better idea, although you might look for a factory-nickeled .45 on the Internet auctions.
 
Easy is a relative thing and so is expensive. Would you be so kind as to elaborate if you are able.
Both my buddy and I are aspiring gunsmiths, so the easy might not be as difficult as the expensive...
