38spl/357 and Lee dies

You don't need bushings at all. They just make it a bit easier. The free solution is to reset the dies whenever you change between .38 and .357. The essentially free and simple solution is to only use .357 cases and forget about loading .38 at all. .38 load data for lead bullets works just fine in .357 cases.

I use RCBS dies and a Lee FCD for 38/357, AA#5 and Tightgroup for powder, and Missouri Bullet Co 158gr SWC for bullets if I am making plinking loads or hunting loads. I like Sierra 140gr JHP for defense loads.
The Lee FCD is not necessary but when I was shooting USPSA matches with my 686 I never had to worry about a case that was to tight to chamber in a fast reload.

I just saw the Lee Deluxe Carbide 4-Die Set 38Spl, 357Mag for $34.99 in the Midway Flyer. Seems like now is the time.

If you do think you want shims, one for the crimp die is the only one that's really important. The expander die is too easy to adjust to bother with a shim (as is the bullet-seating die if you have a separate step for that), and the sizer die doesn't need any adjustment.

I use a Lee 4 hole turret press.
I have one turret for 38 spl.
I have another turret ( with dies) for.357 Mag.
I like not having to play with spacers & adjustments.
Have fun

You are doing something wrong. I sincerely suggest you figure out what it is.

Thanks for all the replies. For the time being, I have one set of dies and a separate turret for them, I'll just mostly load .38
