i just traded a 7400 243 today for a 39a original golden microgrooved. and i love the gun i looked up the s numbers and it was made in 1980, the gun shoots very well and everything works greats the action is really smooth. the gun is prolly 85% and mechanical its 100% ive owned alot of 22's over the years and this one i like by far the best so far. does anyone know the value of this gun?. and also i think im gonna take it to my gun smith and have it reblued and the wood redone. even though it's not in to bad of shap. but being its such a nice shooting and well mad gun i think im going to give it a make over. for the one simple fact that the new ones have the slide bolt safty that i do not like i think that ruined the new marlin rifles.

They are great rifles. Re-finish it at your own risk, you are likely to destroy any collector value.

They are an American Classic 22 rifle and one that most everyone would be proud to own. It is often hard to find one for under $400 in NRA excellent condition in my area. I bought one last year for $350+tax. It was my first 39A and I have no complaints. It was made in 87-88 timeframe, whereas you're 39A is a bit older and perhaps better. I still want to mount a scope on it, but just have not made up my mind and spent the $. Have others to shoot.

the guy at walmart told me there 450 if you order one from him, and thats the new model so i would think the older ones would be more money,

$400 sounds about right for the rifle in that condition. I got a brand-new Golden 39A Mountie in 1966 as a Christmas gift. IIRC, Dad spent $89.95 plus shipping from Herter's to the house. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
