Okay, so I've heard a lot of good and bad about Taurus guns.

Just out of curiosity, without any of the pro-Taurus or anti-Taurus zealotry, what is the quality of the CURRENT 3rd generation Millennium Pro pistols? Is it really markedly different from other guns in that price range? Please, only info on THIRD generation guns, as I know the first (and perhaps the second) generation had some problems.

My 3rd Gen PT-138 has been a lemon.

It's wildly inaccurate, I believe the barrel crown is cut incorrectly. The front sight fell off on the first magazine due to it not being tight. The rear sight was installed backwards from the factory.

It does, however, feed everything I put through it reliably.

Haven't had a single issue with any of the 3rd gen Mil Pro models I've had (PT-111, PT-145, PT-745). I've also compared the newest generation PT-745 with the SA/DA trigger to the same model with the DAO trigger and have found that while the SA/DA trigger is much smoother and may be preferred by most, I shot either model equally well.

The PT-745 is my warm weather CCW of choice.

3rd gen IIRC has the key lock on slide & is a duo-tone.mine was bought used & the nite sights still glow & it is so friggin accurate i have shot a number of IDPA's with it. reliable enough that it has been my winter strong side carry for 5 years now. eats any-thing--even SWC ( used for practice & IDPA), though my carry round is a HP.

Well, I guess I've got a 4th generation PT145 as it has the lock, rail and single / double action trigger. Eats everything I feed it, 200gr cast semi wad cutters, Barnes solid copper flying ash trays, Hornady 200gr tap, blazer 230gr fmj, WWB, Rem UMC cheapos and I carry it every day. I've got a target on my office wall with five shots into less than two inches at twenty five yards off a sand bag shot with WWB ammo.:) Yeah, I'm happy with it and plan to buy a 745 very soon for summer carry.

I've got a 3rd gen pt111. It has been flawless with about 500 rounds through it. When taken apart, it appears to be very well made. I really like it and would suggest taking a good hard look at one.
