Today my son & I hit a pro gun show & he picked up a new Taurus Millenium Pro pt745c. It's the small 45acp 6 round magazine Taurus & he will use it for home defense. I use a Jovino S & W 25-2 N frame modified to a round butt 45acp with a 2 1/2" barrel as protection. I tried to use the Taurus USA site to find info on the pt645c as we read a June 2005 review on the gun & figured it was a current model, but the Taurus website doesn't list it. Is this gun still in production? I'm a little concerned not finding it on the Taurus website that it was perhaps discontinued because of a flaw or problems. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ken

The PT745 is current production, they have only been out for about one and half or two years. The Mil Pro PT145 is a 10+1 and the PT745 is a spin off with a slightly thinner grip. I carry a 145 and find it very reliable and easy to carry.

I did carry a PT-145, but I replaced it with the PT-745 SS last summer. The single stack is a bit thinner and easier to conceal under a T-shirt. Both models are very good, dependable, accurate and a smooth DAO trigger. Good choice:D

I just purchased a 745C a couple months ago. Mine tends to shoot low, but I've only tried the cheap WWB stuff and a box of those rather odd pure copper bullets Taurus is selling. Once I realized it was shooting consistently low, I was able to compensate and put up some very respectable groups. I had one FTE towards the end of my second 100 rounds of WWB.

I was about to make a new thread for this question, but this seems like a better place to ask: What's a good carry ammo for this weapon? The manual says to avoid +P ammo. I'm thinking +P would be rather sporty in a gun this light anyway. I'm leaning towards Remington Golden Sabres in standard pressure. Anybody care to talk me out of it? 230 or 185 grain?

I have one that's been back to Taurus 3 times for FTF issues - a light primer strike on at least one, and usually 2 (sometimes 3) rounds per magazine. Doesn't seem to matter what kind of ammo is in it, same results. I have a problem with a gun I've sent back to the manufacturer 3 times with no fixes.

Having said that, I know three people that bought the same gun and have had absolutely no problems with theirs. Also on the plus side, I do enjoy shooting it (when mine goes bang). I'm actually pretty amazed at how accurate it is for such a short barreled weapon.

Mine's likely to end up as a target rather than a weapon. :(

For carry ammo I use Winchester Ranger RA45T, which is standard pressure 230gr JHP. I works fine in the PT-745. This ammo in a shorter barrel (3") Colt Defender chronographed at ~797 fps, so it should be around 800fps on average from the 3.25" Taurus barrel.

This is something I wonder about:

http://www.gunblast.com/Taurus-PT145.htm

This guy broke the cardinal rule of using ammo a gun isn't designed for, but said that the PT-145 functioned flawlessly with Speer .45 GAP.

Note that the Speer ammo tested is the short .45 GAP cartridge, which this pistol is not meant to use. I tested it out of curiosity, and it functioned perfectly through the Taurus.

(Of course, when someone says they tested an incompatible cartridge "just out of curiousity", I expect that someday their nickname will be Stumpy or One-eye...) :D

I have to wonder, especially for the 745, whether someone would be able to make a magazine with a spacer to safely and reliably feed the shorter cartridge, and whether the extractor would catch it properly. It is the same diameter, isn't it? Just wondering from the perspective of reducing the carry weight and recoil, while, from all tests out there, getting similar ballistics results as the full-sized .45 ACP.

If 45 ACP and GAP headspace on the cartridge case, then -- assuming the slide knocks the shorter GAP cartridge deep into the barrel on loading -- upon firing the cartridge is going to fly back and slam into the bolt face. I don't see how this would be a good thing.
