Hey everyone,

I saw this listed on Armslist in the Seattle area and thought I would share it here. I'm not a huge revolver guy, but even I am impressed that this person has not one, not two but three unfired Colt Pythons

http://www.armslist.com/posts/2903041/seattle-washington-handguns-for-sale--colt-python--3-unfired-boxed-guns-

Are these guns really worth that much? Or is it also the fact that they are all of the same vintage and have the same grips?

Pictures from the listing for those of you too lazy to click the link ;)

I could see $10k together given what pythons are going for...but dang, at $17k he's proud of them

That's what I was thinking. At $17k for the set that's over $4k per pistol...

Even in unfired condition that seems way steep compared to what I'm seeing in the online auctions.

That blows way past ridiculous. It's ignorant. My guess is the seller isn't too keen on selling but thought ,"well let's just see what happens."

Top money to me would be on the shy side of $10K. Maybe...

I just wonder how someone could have not one, not two, but three Pythons lying around and never fired even one of them. Now that's real dedication and willpower there!

hah, I'll bet someones wife said something along the lines of "you don't need three of those, and they are worth too much to sit in a closet...I want you to sell them"

Then a "boy...I'll give it a shot, dear"

lol, and in about a month there will be a statement somewhere along the lines of "well, they didn't sell, so much for that idea...I tried, dear".

I recently saw a private collection of Colts-- Diamondbacks, Pythons, Anacondas, 5 units per barrel length, all unfired, factory papers. a set of stainless, a set of blued. I thought I had found the holy grail.

Gotta be careful with Colts. Lots of fake boxes out there now. One very well known fraud continues to produce "original" boxes/labels and the auction sites do nothing about it.

I am surprised at the asking price.

I would not be shocked if he got what he was asking.

It seems the bar ($) for pythons keeps rising.

Would I love to have them....DAM YES but to spend that much money to lock them is a safe and just take them out a hold them and wipe off the finger prints and put them back in the safe no thanks. Yea you can't shoot them but every time you pul the trigger the value drops.

I have a unfired 4" that I paid $1400 for 3 years ago. Today, I could break it out, go shooting, sell it and still make close to a grand.

I can see someone with more money than sense offering $15k for them.
Why not?
It's only money and to someone like that cost is not the issue.

If someone plans on hanging on to them as an investment, imagine what these guns could be worth in another 30 years.

As for the price, you're not just buying one individual gun. You're essentially buying a collection. the three common barrel lengths in blued finish. It means that you don't have to hunt for the other two once you find one. It's kind of like one stop shopping, which can be worth a premium price to some.
Now if it were the three barrel lengths in blued, nickel, and stainless, along with some of the rare lengths like a 3" bbl Lew Horton, etc... then you would be selling a complete collection and really be able to mark it at a premium.

Of course if you had one from each year of production in each barrel length and each finish... you could drive yourself nuts trying to figure out what constitutes a complete collection.

They could be a billion dollars and I would not care.

I've shot them. Good guns, shoot strait, but they sure are not worth the prices they ask.

Yea yea, they are 'Colts', but they hold six shots, shoot maybe a bit better than a S&W, and, uh, that's about it.

May be worth alot as a collector piece but as a shoot-n-iron, no.

But since I so have a few Colts, if they want to keep jacking up the prices, that's ok with me. Makes them a good retirement fund.

They're not any kind of "official set", so it's just three Pythons, all with incorrect stocks. If the serial numbers were sequential, it may bring a slight premium. But, this guy must be smokin' too much wacky tabacky!

The boxes look to be original, and not one of that clown's fakes from Sparta, TN. They have the proper aging and wear you'd expect from the mdi-1980's.

It's probably a case of, "Honey I AM trying to sell them, I just haven't found a buyer yet."

He's not really interested in selling them, this is just another "look what I've got" type of listing. If he was serious, he would have a serious price.

I love Pythons but not enough to pay more than a couple hundred dollars more than a current production revolver from smith or ruger... Which means I will never own one.
