.40 Federal Hi-Shok

AIM has them for $9 a box plus shipping. Seems like a pretty good deal, but I can't find out what makes it different from Hydra Shok. Federal's website didn't have anything on it, either.

Good ammo for defense? Or just range ammo?

It's Federal's Classic line of ammo for those that can't afford Federal's premium line.

Federal Hi-Shok:
Basic JHP
Brass shell casing
Standard Powder (non-low flash)

Federal Hydra-Shok:
Better JHP
Nickel plated shell casing
Low-flash Powder

The price seems about right for what you would expect to pay.
