Recently acquired some 165 RNFP from extreme. Where I don't see a specific recipe for this projectile, going with a plated 165 round would work as well, correct? I am specifically seeing Berb FP at the Hogdon site for 165 grain 40 S&W data. Otherwise its 165 Grain SIE HP.

If you have data for the Berrys bullets, it should be good. Seat to the same OAL and then do a plunk test just to be sure.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't sure what Berb stood for, so I am guessing Berry's Bullets.

Thanks. I was looking for their abbreviation guide and just flat stumbled.

Yep, Xtreme is plated, so berry's plated 165 FP data will be very useful. Let us know what recipe you like.
I am trying the 165 flat points. I don't think it's the ammo, but my accuracy with my new CZ SPO1 Tactical shooting 180 extreme plated hollow points with 5.5 grains of Bullseye was arghhh, terrible. Wondering how I shoot with the 165 grain extreme flat points using one of my winchester (231, wst, wsf) or Hodgdon (clays, hp-38) options works out. I am not much on experimenting. Just like stuff to go bang, cycle well and get reasonably close to what I am shooting at.
Guessing it is my lack of familiarity with the SP01. However, my 9mm 75b shooting some of reloads, I was a heck of a lot more accurate.

I've heard that if you call Xtreme and ask about load data, they recommend using the Speer load data for the Speer TMJ bullets. I have used that data and it correlates well with my results.

Hope to load up some tonight - haven't decided on the powder. Last night finished up my last 50 or so 180 grain extreme jhp rounds. Starting on the RNFP rounds tonight - I hope.
I thought I would check and see if my alliant options - Bullseye, GreenDot, Unique might be usable for the 165. Not. Not even sure why I have a pound of GreenDot - looks to be only 230 grn 45 acp loads for it.
Not being that well versed in the advantages of one powder over another, will just take a stab at it in regards to which of my winchester/hogdgon powders to use. I picked up 2 pounds of 231 when it was looking like powders might get scarce again recalling that it was a pretty good all around powder, like HP-38. Makes one wanna stick with one caliber, one powder, one projectile......nahhh

I looked up my notes. By my notes, Berry's 165 gr. FP is .554", and Xtreme is .540" on OAL.
I am not wise enough to know how one might adjust to this variation. I maintained same bullet length as Berry load using 231 powder. By the way, forgot how consistent 231 was in its drops.
OAL for my reloads is around 1.125 (which is the same for 165/180/and a lot of other loads in the 40 S&W.

If your cartridge with the Xtreme bullet will pass the plunk test at the same cartridge OAL as data list with the Berry's bullet, then you should be in the same range. As the Xtreme bullet is only .004" shorter than Berry's. But this is the internet, and you may want to drop the charge down a couple .01 gr. and work back up to be safe. :)

Hope to test out and compare the 180 berry's HP loads to a batch of 50 of this new load with 231 and 160RNFP this weekend. However, my burg is getting pounded by covid. Might stay away from the range. Oddly enough a gun show is still going on this weekend along with a rodeo and a few other things. As much as I would love to go to the gun show, it ain't happening. I had the test once - it sucked.

I just tested berrys 165 PFP with 5.6g of Bullseye and it was a nice full power load! For what its worth

PFP= Plated Flat Point ?
I did not get to try out my reloads - don't hurry may not as Texas may be getting close to lock down again (however, ranges and gun shops are deemed essential).
I did drop down and load 50 with 4.7 vs. 4.9 grains of 231.
So I should be able to some decent comparisons - might take my other 40, my less likable Sig 2022 - along with the CZ SP01 when I get to go. Of course we are at triple digits all week. Grilled some ribs this weekend and didn't even have to turn on the fire :)
