40 S&W Love

I think I load more 40S&W than 9mm. I also use it for USPSA. Nothing wrong with 9mm, I just use 40 more for some reason. Seriously considering a G27 or S&W Shield.

RSKent,
Yes, I have both 22 and 22C, I also have 23 and 23C. The C models are softer to shoot. The porting/compensation really helps to keep the muzzle down, making it easier to line up for the next shot.
If you have an opportunity to compare them side by side, take it. That way you can see if you like it.

The SIG P229 was designed for the 40S&W, so give it a try. The 40 is not going to eject the cases in a pile near your feet, but it should be in a pile about 3-6 feet from you.

I enjoy reloading and shooting the 40S&W. I think it is one of the easier (handling wise) cartridges to reload, and it was the first cartridge I reloaded. It is definitely more fun to shoot than the 9mm, but I have to admit my 357sig is a bit more fun to shoot.

In looking at the Sig P229, I saw that Sig made a 1911 chambered for 40 S&W. I like about anything in a a 1911 so I have a 40 S&W Sig on the way.

When you shoot it, post a comparison on .40 vs .45 in a 1911 frame. I wonder if the "snappy .40 vs pushy .45" argument has more to do with the gun ergonomics than the actual round.

Congratulations with the new 1911. Please post a picture once you receive the new family member.

Now, that's got me thinking. I just haven't seen one yet. If I had, I'd probably pick one up. I have 1911s in 9MM and 38 Super. 40 would probably be pretty cool.

Back to 40's, last night I brought along the Glock 22, 22C, 35 and 27 to let my buddy try out. So, it was mostly a 40 cal night. My buddy really enjoyed them. He did pretty well with them all.

I'd definitely be interested in a 40 cal 1911.
I only have 1 so far - 45 ACP.
But I've shot a 9 & man that was sweet.
I didn't know a 9mil could have such little recoil.

Hondo60;

I had been using a small revolver for concealed carry, but found it printed too easily and was uncomfortable to wear. So, in the mid-90's, I went searching for a new carry platform. The search was somewhat constrained by the fact that I'm left handed & see no reason whatsoever to allow any given manufacturer to fail to acknowledge that a sizable segment of the population comes from the factory that way. In other words, at that time, the search didn't take any too long. The platform I decided upon was the H&K USPc in .40 S&W.

I've been carrying it since the mid-90's also for a couple of what I consider to be very good reasons. A. The Milt Sparks Exec's Companion IWB holster is both comfortable and durable. Only took 17 years of daily carry to wear out the first one, and am now on the second. B. The round eminently satisfies my requirements for it. I have available up to 13 rounds with which to extricate myself from any situation without resorting to additional paraphernalia hung on my body. Those rounds throw a heavier bullet than the 9, but in pretty much the same sized package.

Then there's the fact that when I wanted to update the gun to an ambidextrous operating capability, H&K did that for me at a very reasonable cost, which was exactly what I was quoted, and turned it around in less than a week.

I have other guns, in other calibers, but nothing else I've run across satisfies my requirements as well. So, no reason to change. Which is not to say that I haven't tried others. Glock is not only "no thank you" but "he!! no thank you!"

As promised, here's my new SIG 1911 chambered in 40 S&W. It shoots, well, like a 1911.:)

I've had a much better shooting experience with this SIG than I had with a first year's production P238. The SIG 1911 had been flawless so far. That is a pleasant surprise.

I shot the SIG and a 45 ACP 1911 Government model alternately.

Felt recoil of the SIG shooting 180 TMJ ammunition that chronographed in my Beretta 96FS at 955 fps was a little less than the felt recoil in the 1911 Government model. (230 FMJ at about 830 fps) SIG1911.JPG

By the way, I like Pachmayr grips. The gun came with some wood grips that I have squirreled away for a future owner.

Is the sig 1911 40 a new model I did not know there was a 40 in 1911 platform

Hey Chuck, Can I tell you that is a nice looking pistol? Can I tell you that now I have to "unfriend" you as you are going to cost me money!

Just when I thought it was safe -- another reason to spend $$. But it will be a while, too many other projects/wants on the list.

I am a great proponent of the 40. Coupled with my Glock, it rode my hip for many years as an LEO. The round is robust, and intense. The line of sight penetration with FMJ, is remarkable. I recommend it to shooters who are willing to train with it, it's a great round.
