40 Super vs. 400 Corbon vs 10mm

I'd like to get some opinions on the pros/cons of these calibers.

1. Availability of weapons (and conversions)

2. Availability of ammo (factory vs. reloads)

3. Any other relevants *facts* (no myths please

I don't recall seeing any 40 Super or 400 CorBon ammo at my local gunshop, but they do carry 10mm. More factory weapons are available in 10mm than 40 Super or 400 CorBon. Come to think of it, my local gunshop does not have anything chambered in 40 Super or 400 CorBon, but they do have one or two 10mm pistols.

400carbon is 45acp case knecked down to .40
conversion barrels are availible for most guns in 45acp

dont know who all makes the ammo. cor bon came up with it I believe and have it availible.

Interesting-just went thru my Accurate #2 reloading book, and although the comparison stops at 165 grains, that 400 Cor-bon runs the same pressure as the 10MM (37,500 psi) and the Cor-bon loads are about 65-75 fps slower.

I would have thought the difference would have been much more, but the case capacity is about the same, with the 10MM having the advantage in heavier weight bullets.

I have been looking for a decent Colt Delta, but might consider the Cor-bon load. The only thing I hesitate on is a bottle necked case-I really do not want to lube pistol cases......

10mm guns are more common by about a zillion to one for a factory gun.

Glocks, Witness, Kimber, DW, S&W (used but clean) etc...all make 10mms

A factory chambered 40 Super is an STI Trojan of past production...theres one in a gun case in SLC, with the STD 45 ACP barrel with it........very very very tempting......If I had the money.

The 400 Corbon is alot more popular then the 40 Super and is mostly available in a Conversion barrel for most "very common" (read as mostly 1911 Govt and a couple of other 45's) guns.

Ammo for the Corbon is commonly made by Corbon, Ironic isnt it?

I have been shooting a FAC 400 Cor-Bon bbl in my G30 since Christmas. It only feeds reliably when using the latest version magazine, the one with the pointy end at the front. It also requires that it be loaded out to 1.270" loa.

That said, it will do 1400 fps out of that ported bbl with a 155 gr MG jhp and 18 gr of one of my blends. This is using Starline 400 Cor-Bon brass. It is much stronger than even R-P 45 +P brass.

It is "fun" to shoot and very loud. It does draw a crowd. Whether it is better than a 10mm, who cares? It is a new toy and since I load all of my ammo myself, factory availability is of no consequence.

.40 Super > 10mm Auto > .400 Cor-Bon

.400 Cor-Bon can't match the top end of 10mm ballistics, especially when you are talking about loading with heavier bullets (>170gr). .40 Super is hotter than either, but unfortunately the company that created it (Triton) crapped out.

You know, if you want a rip-snorting semi-auto, you could go with 45 Super.

.40 Super is slightly better ballistically than the 10mm, but good luck finding ammo! The 10mm is definitely the most common caliber of the three, as well as the most common factory produced gun.

THAT COME STRAIGHT OFF OF STI'S WEBSITE. SO THAT SETTLES THAT. THERE'S NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE IN TH .40 SUPER & .400 COR-BON FROM AN APPEARENCE STANDPOINT -MUCH LIKE THE .45ACP & .45 SUPER -THE DIFFENCE IS IN THE CASE, AND OF COURSE -PERFORMANCE!

I'M A BIG FAN OF THE .400 CB & 10 MM BUT OF THE 2 I LIKE THE AVALABILTY OF THE 10MM.
ITS NICE TO HAVE SUCH AN EASY "SWAP-CALIBER" SET UP FOR THE .400 & 45 IN MY 1911S, AND OVER ALL I THINK IT'S WORTH THE EFFORT.
I'VE HUNTED WITH THE .400 AND WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE IT IS JUST AS FLAT SHOOTING AS THE 10MM AND EQUAL STOPPING POWER. (FACTORY LOADS) I REALLY DON'T THINK THERE ONE HAS MUCH ADVANTAGE OVER THE OTHER, ASIDE FROM POPULARITY OF 10MM & IF YOU WERE TO DEDICATE A GUN TO .400CB -THEN JUST GET A DELTA 10MM. I SAY THAT, BUT MY SA NM IS A DEDICATED .400CB & I LIKE IT JUST AS MUCH AS I DO MY DAD'S DELTA ELITE.


NOW THE .45 SUPER -DON'T GET ME STARTED- I'M IN THE PROCESS OFBUILDING ONE OF THOSE RIGHT NOW. -CAN'T WAIT TO TRY IT OUT.

SO I GUESS I'M NOT MUCH HELP HERE -I JUST LIKE THE .400CB BECAUSE YOU GET 10MM PERFORMANCE OUT OF ANY .45 BY JUST SWAPPING BARRELS. ADD THE .45 SUPER AND EXTRA R'CL SPRINGS & YOU GET A 3-CALIBER 1911!

The only place that the .400CB can equal the 10mm, using full -powered loads is corbon's website. The .400CB is thoroughly whipped by anything coming from DoubleTap Ammunition.
