.41 Mag Association

I'm wondering how the toggle link design of the '73 Winchester handles the pressure of the .41 mag?
But I have seen them in .357 too.

The .41 out of a 7-1/2" bbl is a great deer cartridge at six-gun ranges.
I don't know if Uberti beefed up the action but they are now offering the 1873 in .44 Magnum.

Wow if they are offering it in .44, it's stand the .41, smaller hole= more metal around the chamber. Still the toggle link is probably the weak link?

I love those 4 5/8" Blackhawks too, along with those red and black grips on your Blackhawk. Are they factory or aftermarket?

Nice! Waiting to see it with a scope.

I came to like the .41 mag after shooting a friends 6-1/2" Blackhawk & that was before any transfer bar.
I found hitting a deer size target in the kill zone from a rest at 100yds wasn't real hard.
I've liked the ctg every since.

Anyone here a fan of the S&W mod 58?

Anyone here a fan of the S&W mod 58?

I have a fondness for the Model 58 because it was my introduction to the .41 Magnum and I have my dad's 58. It may not be my favorite to shoot but I do like them.

New member here. I saw this forum and thread has been around since 2011, and it's still active. Pretty impressive, so I thought I would join.

First handgun I bought was a 41 magnum. Spent a summer loading hay onto a hay wagon to save up enough money to buy a handgun. I had a worn out Mod 19 police issue that had been given to me as a gift, but I wanted something new. The only new gun I could afford at the local gun shop was a Redhawk 41 magnum. It had a 7 ½” barrel without the scope cuts in the barrel. Owner of the shop hadn't been able to sell it, and the price was marked down low enough that I could afford it. He even threw in a couple boxes of Remington ammo.

That was a few decade ago. I was hooked, and I've been a hardcore 41 fan ever since.

Here's my favorite, a MOD 58 I picked up at a gun show. Sent it off the MagnaPort in the early 80's for porting and action work. It's been back to the S&W Performance Center for a tune up and installation of a target hammer.

This gun has spent a whole lot of time on my belt in the woods, and has had A LOT of rounds through it. Still amazingly accurate. Last month I went to a get together of some old friends, and at 100 yds from a rest, 3 of us were hitting a 6” plate at a hundred yards 3 out of 6 shots with it.

I can see I'm going to have to improve my photography skills. The photos here are outstanding

Can I join this group? I just bought a 41 mag Ruger 3 Screw 4-5/8", made in 1966 (looks brand new) from my lgs. I ordered 1k cases from Starline and a bullet mold. This gun will complement my two 3 screw 4-5/8" in 45 long colt. I'm looking forward building up a couple of loads for this awesome gun!

Better Pictures

I'm no photographer, but here's my attempt at better pictures of my Mod 58

I have a mobel57 I inherited from my brother it is a s number in Mahogany box with cleaning kit in 98 percent condition with 1/2 box of old Remington ammo. It has 8 3/8 inch barrel and looks like Dirty Harrys model 29 , I have plenty of guns to shoot so it his a safe queen! I am accessing this forum with my phone and am to dumb to post pictures[emoji2]

I have several .41 Rem. guns - but that Uberti 1873 is just about the coolest thing I have seen in a very long time. Really really want.

100 Yds with a 4" Mod 58

Here's a picture of us shooting at 100 yds at a 6" plate. The guy in the photo is trying his custom Witness 45 to see if he could match the resuts we were getting with the 4" Mod 58.

The 41 mag won.

The burn marks on the towel are from the cylinder gap on the Mod 58

It'll put the same burn marks on the insides of your jeans too when you use the old Elmer Keith position of resting your back on an object, drawing up your legs, & clamping the gun between your drawn up knees.
When you wash them it will have bleached the powder burns white. It is a very accurate position though.

41 Mag Story

I was cruising the tables at the local gun show, and there was a dealer with several 41 magnums. The jewel was a Lou Horton 3” Mod 657. The price was a little steep, but not bad for a Lou Horton. I had a 6” Mod 57 and tried to work a trade. He had a couple more 6” besides what was on the table and didn't want any more.

Turns out he was a 41 mag fan, and we talked a bit. I offered him $100 less than what he was asking for the Lou Horton – no sale.

Talked about 41's a little more, and he was also reloaded a lot for his 41's. The Lou Horton, like all 41's, shot real well with the magic 8.0 to 8.5 grains Unique with a 215 gr LSWC.

Offered him $50 less – no sale. A little more talking about 41's, and I offered full price – still no sale.

I really wanted the Lou Horton. Double action was nice and smooth. Single action broke crisp as could be. No end shake and lockup timing was perfect. So I offered him $100 OVER asking price – NO SALE.

A 41 magnum has a way of doing that to a man. In this case, two men. A buyer willing to pay $100 over asking price and a seller who still won't sell.
