.41 Mag Association

.

This 1967 4-5/8 .41 Magnum Blackhawk is now mostly paid for but thanks to California's "one handgun in 30 days" rule I cannot take delivery until next month. I have a Super Blackhawk (shhhh! in .44) due home Sunday. The .41 and the .44 are the calibers I'll begin reloading for. Looking forward to that!

That is one fine looking Blackhawk!
Welcome to the .41 Magnum Association.

Is the 41 association still accepting new members?

I have one 41 Magnum.

Smith and Wesson 657-3 Classic Hunter.

This gun is very accurate and has the best trigger of any of my N-Frames.

Thanks Frank V and KO!

cal44, that Smith & Wesson is just fantastic. There's a S&W .41 in my future collection for sure.

:)

I bought a New Model Blackhawk last fall in 41 mag, but came across an unconverted Old Model 41 mag from 1967 last week. So I technically own 2 - 41 Mags right now, buy the New Model is for sale (to help pay off the Old Model). Love the 41 Mags.

Pablo, those Black Hawks are fine six-guns usually VERY accurate.
The .41 mag is very controllable even with heavy loads.;)

My GB .41Mag Blackhawk is quite accurate! Went well at that range. If I bear down, I can put put all three in a quarter at 15 yards unsupported.

Outstanding news, my good man. :)

Where are the pictures? :D

RJM52 That is a pretty snubby.;)
I'd like to know about your loads too.
What SWC is that did you buy them or cast them, if you cast them what mold & where did you get it?
Thanks.

...could not resist....

Hey Bob, It looks like Ruger did a better job on the fit and finish on yours than they did mine (See Post 928) How does it shoot for you? Mine may not look the best, but it is accurate. I am usually able to clang my 8" dia. steel from 50 yards offhand with 5 out of 6 shots, using 210gr Hornady JHP over 21.0gr H110.

The gun is a limited edition Davidson's exclusive just released about three weeks ago... I've only had a chance to shoot it on some steel plates at fairly short range and can't really give a good review of how it shoots.

As to the loads...the bullets were cast by Vern Dual who was secretary of the Cast Bullet Association back in the with 1970s...he lived in Dallas, Texas and had a tv repair business I believe and was a commercial caster...but all his bullets were hand cast and of Linotype. My guess is that it was a Keith 220 from a SAECO mold that weights 212 grain in Linotype. Pushed with 8.0 grains of Unique it runs 850 fps from a 4" barrel and is very accurate.

Once I get the gun out on paper I write more details...

I took my new Ruger Redhawk 2.75" out today. I broke my pinky finger on my right hand a couple of weeks ago and it still hurts like hell to shoot virtually anything. That aside, this gun is going to get beaten like a rented mule in a couple of weeks. I passed the gun around and let my able handed friends shoot as many rounds as they wanted. It was nothing but smiles.

Outstanding!

Sorry to hear about your finger. I don't want a hand injury! That would get in the way of my sho0tin!

Fantastic. Thanks for your reply, Bob.

My only .41...

Yeah? Well, you suck! :D

That gun is a masterpiece!

*one day*

KO...I also have to agree with you in that whoever built the 4.2" guns was on vacation when these 2.75" guns were built. The 4.2" I have is flawless. The polishing is 99% and the action, both DA and SA is excellent.

The 2.75" is not polished nearly as well and the DA pull actually breaks later than the 4.2" and pinches my trigger finger between the trigger and guard...doesn't happen at all with the 4.2". The SA breaks very clean with very little takeup...there is much more takeup with the 2.75".

When I first saw the round butt 4.2" .41 Magnum I wished it was also a round butt like the .45 Colt/ACP. After firing the 2.75" however I much prefer the square butt frame. I'm hoping that Pachmayer will bring out their Compact Grip like they have for the N-frame S&W round butt gun but with an exposed frontstrap... The second time I shot the 2.75" I put a set of Uncle Mikes grips on that made shooting much more comfortable but made the gun look bulky...
