.41 Mag Association

Sign me up too.Been a fan since the early 70's. 6" Blackhawk has never shot a factory round. 8.5 gr Unique+ 210 gr Keith gas check. Up in NH
 
Aren't there Speed Strip (like Bianchi) now for .41/44/45? That would keep a reload neat in your pocket even if you have to shuck them off for a Blackhawk.

W231 should max-out at a lower velocity than Unique. Other than that it should work OK. If you want something closer to Unique that measures better, look into WSF. (use Herco load data because inexplicably there's no WSF load data for revolver cartridges)
 
I joined THR just now so I could become part of the "Association." I too am a 41 mag fan. Bought my first shortly after getting married over 30 years ago. It was a beautiful 657 no dash with a high polish finish if I remember right. That one is unfortunately long gone, but I now have a 657-3 6", and a 657-4 Mountain Gun that I just bought this week. I have had others over the years also. I like the Speer 210 Gold Dot in factory ammo, as well as the Winchester 175 gr Silvertip. Sounds like Hornady may have a new 210 gr XTP loading. I'll have to check that out. Anyway, great guns and a great cartridge. You could say it's my sentimental favorite. wyatte
 
It's fun at full-throttle, too :D

My hunting load is 18.2gr of 2400 under a Dardas 215gr LSWC. Average 1337 fps, extreme spread of 29fps. Not Buffalo Bore/Grizzly hot, but definitely a handful.

I'm not a recoil junkie, at all, but that load is very comfortable to shoot. You know yer shootin' a big-boy gun, but not unpleasant at all.

Bisley grip helps in that regard, I'm sure :cool:
 
Alert: new toy arrived today. After seeing the pic of the stainless Bisley in 5 1/2" I had to have one. A quick search on Gun Broker found one and it arrived today. Something in my mind told me they were only made for a short period of time a few years back. The spent case that came with the gun was dated August 25th 2011, huh? Are they still being made? Obviously it's a distributor exclusive, does anyone know which distributor?
 
I'm not sure as I thought they were no longer a production item either. BTW I was looking at the new Lyman cast bullet handbook at my LGS today. I'm going to have to pick that one up as it had IIRC data tables for four different bullets:) One was the RCBS 210gr SWC, and I remember one for a SEACO 220gr SWC as well.

What surprised me though was the max for 2400 was 17.1gr for the RCBS bullet. I'd of thought it would be closer to 18gr for a max load with that powder.

Mine came from Williams Shooters Supply earlier this year.

Several years ago the was a limited run for Lipsey's.

I'm a little late to the party. I check in here occasionally but don't post much, but somehow missed the 41 Mag Association. I had a Blackhawk 41 MAG in early 70S, but sold it and the dies. Bought another 6.5"BH a few years ago and have since added a 4-5/8"BH plus a 6" 57-6, Contender 10" and a Tracker 4". Would like to find a Redhawk and a Marlin levergun. Have a 44 Redhawk as trade bait.
Didn't see any mention in 11 pages about the 41 Mag. Society. http://the41magnumsociety.blogspot.com/. There hasn't been much activity on the site for a while though. Domino

Tuff QuickStrips..available through Dillon (and perhaps elsewhere).
Two per package, about $8.50 per pack.
 
I'm a long time fan of the .41 Mag. I had a M57 8 3/8" that I used for target shooting and hunting jack rabbits 25+ years ago. Then like an idiot I sold it after I got serious about shooting NRA Highpower rifle and rarely took a pistol out shooting. One of my favorite loads was a 170 gr Sierra with a healthy dose of Blue Dot, it shot like a rifle past 100 yds and sure did a number on the bunnies!
I had been checking online and the gun shops for a replacement and found out they sure have become expensive and harder to find. Well I must be living right because I recently went to visit my older sister and while there my brother in law gave me his nickle M57 6" :what: that he can no longer shoot due to health problems.
Fortunately I still have my reloading dies, brass and NEI bullet molds plus several hundred cast bullet ready to load. :)

I wouldn't think such a mild load would require a gas check. GCs are a PITA and .41 cal GCs are expensive and hard to find in my experience.
 
657 no dash, havn't had a chanch to shoot it the last two time's I, have been home. Hopefully Jannuary will be warm.

Head over to Castboolits .. Blammer sells Gattor gas checks for a reasonable price. Been using GC bullets since 1981 shooting silly wets with a 180 grain Gc in my DW 15-2 .. Have to say from my experience GC´s are not that much hassle especially when I can fire a WW GC bullet at max fps for about 3 cents apiece. But then I cast my own and happily am not a slave to the wims of supply. I also use plain base types till I see base failure in my loads but it sure is nice to not have to spend the big $´s on factory projectiles for higher pressure loads.

Hey there associates I read an article about heavy bullets in the .41 mag that piqued my curiosity. Does anyone here have any experience with heavy .41 Mag loads? By heavy I'm referring to stuff like this

Did you get one of the .41 molds through the group buy this summer? (haven't had a chance to use mine yet) BTW, I've got a couple thousand .41 gas checks, too cheap to use for plinking.

I first saw this one years ago as a teenagers and as a big man it was the first I had ever come across that actually fit my hand, I didnt have the means then to get it fast forward many years. I mentioned it one day to somebody from back home and they knew exactly where the gun ended up, so not only did I find it but I got it for an excellent price. This is one of only two guns I have ever "chased" the other I still dont have yet. Someday....:rolleyes:

My next purchase will most likely be a N frame, but I'm torn between buying a Classic, or a Mountain Gun. And whether to get it in .41, or .44. The only .44 I have is an almost safe queen. It is to nice not to shoot being that it was used when I, bought it. Oh the woe's of the world does rest on my shoulders.
 
Time for me to finally join the group. I got my first model 57 back in the 70s. I later sold it and bought a 657 as all my handguns are now stainless. Thanks to help form others on the forum, I found my paper target range load today. I used 7.0 gr of Unique with a 215 gr LSWC. Accuracy was excellent and recoil was very mild. I can shoot this load all day long.

I have a 2011 SS Ruger Bisley 5.5" in 41 mag. I believe the originals came from Acusport but all the ones recenly have come through Williams. Dennis

I've shot buckets full of 215 grain SWC's with the standard load of 7.5 grs of Unique through them both.

Both are extremely accurate and a pleasure to shoot.
 
I guess I should jump in here. Not that I can add anything new! I'm a huge fan of the 41 Mag. having had my share over the years. I am always at a loss to pick a favorite caliber but the 41 has to be right up there. I have always found it to be extremely accurate in any firearm I have owned and has plenty of power. Love the caliber and I hate the fact it isn't more popular and hasn't gotten better press. I was actually reading one of Ken Waters article in Pet Loads last night and he had wonderful things to say about the 41 Mag. Basically he stated it was not a second rate caliber to the 44 Mag. as so many would have us believe.
