The trigger spring?
can it be removed without taking out the main spring I would like to replace it with a lighter spring from Brownells
brownells sell
30oz
40 oz
here the spring with a little bend on it for lighter trigger pulls
I got it down to 56 oz. not bad compared to 5 1/2 pounds from the factory.
I think by removing the small drift pin in the lower part of the frame the spring should come out;I thought I ask.I tried the pin threw the main spring rod and let the hammer down but still can't remove the mainspring rod from the frame.
I bent only the the legs that hook in the frame so I did not remove the complete spring yet

Just unhook one side of the factory spring.

It will have about the same effect as an after-market spring, and you'll always have a spare spring inside the gun!

Yes, you can, but it is a lot easier to just take the grip frame/trigger gaurd off. We're only talking 5 screws. You won't gain a whole lot by just changing the trigger spring. I just did a Bisley yesterday. I spent 2 hours total. I replaced the main hammer spring, the trigger spring, and polished the sear contacts. It now has a trigger that breaks every time at 17 ounces like a piece of glass! The main spring and rod will come out the left side, sometimes requiring a bit of jiggling, but it will come out easily with no force when lined up correctly. Gauruntee, it is worth the time and effort!

Doing the trigger spring without dissasembly, it may be pretty difficult to line up the coils of the spring to slip the retainer pin in.

Follow rcmodel's advise

Without knowing what final trigger pull you want, I suggest following rcmodel's suggestion first. It has been a long time "secret" way to reduce trigger pull on Rugers and has proven perfectly save in my experience.
Of course you don't get the benefits of fitting/polishing your engagement surfaces without going into it further, but this might just give you what you are looking for without spending any money.
