What kind of performance can I expect from Winchester factory 200 Gr JSP 44-40 ammo from a 16" carbine barrel ?

Like the 44 special you will need to reload tp get the best performance out of the 44-40.
Factory bullets can measure as small as .425" to keep pressure down in weak or old firearms. 44-40 spec's will call for a .427" bullet diameter but it could be .430" . So slug and measure your rifle and shoot bullets that fit. Lead bullets have worked best for me.
