Was thinking about S&W 625's with full moon clips. And my various M-29's.
Would it work and would there be a market for A revolver chambered for the old rimless 44 Auto Mag that would be able to use full moon clips like a 625?
It would have more power then a 10 mm 610. But would it have enough of A market for S&W to build?
I'd buy one if it was available. I dislike reloading stubby .45 ACP brass, but would like to have the fast reload of a full moon clip.

While it sounds like a good idea, I doubt if it will be done. There is no availability of the ammunition right now, even for somebody who has an actual AutoMag. At least I don't see them stocking the ammo at the local gun shop or WalMart.

Did anybody ever make 44 automag ammo. All I ever heard about for the auto mag was cutting down 308,30-06,or 243 casings to make the casings then reload your own.

one shot one kill

I believe that is the way they could be made, however the mouth of the resulting case would have to be turned or reamed out to thin it out enough to swallow the .429 pill without making a ridge on the outside of the case. It's not quite as easy as you might think.

Auto mag

Had a friend with A Auto Mag and he bought ammo and reloaded. I can't recall if he made his own cases. I do remember reading about the reeming involved.
Cost of brass precluded shooting at stuff while standing in tall grass.

Rimless 44 revolver

The 44 Auto Mag, while very close to the 44 Magnum is not quite identical. (Rim or lack there of aside.) There is a wild cat called the 44 Jaguar which is a rimless 44 magnum and intended for use in a modifed S&W M29 with moon clips. It was intended for pin shooting where a rapid reload is required and is usually loaded with a hollow point having a toothed edge, the better to grab a pin if off center. I doubt there is enough demand for it to get commercial production.

Conversion

The 44 Jaguar conversion is simple enough, it consists of shaving the rear of the cylinder to take moon clips. This was done to many a Mk VI Webley to take 45 ACP in spite of the fact that proper ammo for the Webley was abailable.

I don't remember what the 44 jaguar was using for parent brass.

The 44 Auto Mag, at least as used in the Auto Mag, was loaded a tad lighter than the 44 Mag.

It has been done. Massad Ayoob wrote about the notion some years ago.

You can have an M29 cut for clip clearance and load standard .44 Magnum in clips. You have to be kind of selective about your brass, not all rimmed cartridges have enough of a relief cut in front of the rim for the clip to snap into, but some do. I have had a couple of .357s like that but found that the long skinny cartridges flop around in the clips enough to reduce the value of packet loading.

Not very expensive, $75-$90 at

If you find a shop to take it all the way to .44 Auto Mag, Starline lists the brass.
