Hi!

I'm thinking of having my 629's cylinder cut to use moon clips. I shoot it in SSR in IDPA a lot but I'm thinking of switching to ESR (no Comp III speed-loaders for .44 and all my .44 Spc. ammo makes 165 power floor anyway) and the moon clips seem the way to go.

But I don't know anyone who's done this and have no idea what accessory equipment you'd use or what success you might have.

Who makes moon clip holders that would accept a 6-round clip of .44 Spc? Do the clips hold the cartridges firmly like the .45ACP version for the 625? Is reloading with them the same easy drop-in as with a 625, or is there a lot of slop and "fiddling" to line them up?

If there aren't advantages to this, I won't do it, but I don't think I'm ever going to catch up to the guys running .38s in SSR, nor hang with the moon-clip guys in ESR.

What do you say?

Hi,
There are a few competition shooters using clipped .44 Russians with great success. However I do not know the details. I would invite you to join Brianenos.com. I know this has been covered extensively there.
