Hello all, I forgot to research this and I'm taking my black powder pistol to the range this weekend. I just got a replica .44 black powder percussion cap pistol.

Question is; I've been told they take a different primer than black powder .50cal rifles, I have a Hawken I use #10 (or #11 I don't remember) can I use these primers in the .44cal pistol? If not, what kind do I need?

Thanks in advance.

Either the #10 or #11 should light the fire.

Use the ones that fit best on your gun's nipples. I prefer a snug fit, which requires pushing the cap down onto the nipple as far as it will go, GENTLY, with a dowel or pencil, not your thumb.

I assume a pencil instead of your thumb in case it goes off and rushes out the nipple?

I saw a picture of a thumb that was injured when a cap went off unexpectedly.

Rare to be sure, but I would rather my thumb not look like that...

there's a chance that you could be struck by lightning, a meteorite or space junk randomly falling from the sky!

And a subtle case of paranoia has allowed me to live a lot longer than my exercise regime ever indicated that I would.:p
