Going through some of my notes I put together years ago I came across one that I downloaded a bit from max from one's from Alliant data and Sierra data. I have written down a 180 gr. JHP from a 6 " barrel .44 mag ( mag cases ) with 21.5 grs. of 2400 powder achieving just 1280 FPS which sounds a little slow, not that I want a lot more speed with this bullet.

To those of you that use a similar bullet / powder combo using .44 mag cases what kind of velocities are you getting and from what length barrel ?

Several years ago I used a bulk 180 JHP from a 7 1/2 " .44 mag Ruger SBH with just enough Blue Dot to get 1275 FPS on a broadside buck at close range from a tree stand. Total pass through, very good expansion, easy blood trail for 40 yards where he was found. I have no more Blue Dot but still have 2400 so your input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Speer13 doesn't have a 180, but they have a 200gr jhp load for 2400. Start is 22gr, max is 24gr.
Hornady9 has 21.9gr as the start load for their 200gr jhp bullet and a max of 25.9gr

Using that data to make a start load with 180gr bullets I would start at least with 24gr.
Using non magnum primers.

I plan on loading up 180gr 44mags with Alliant410. What I can find says "use 2400 data, but minus 1gr for start and max loads".
I have a superredhawk and a rem783 so if they're a bit hot, not worries.
Yeah 180gr jacketed 44mag loaded with 2400 is of interest to me.
