I started priming some 44 Mag brass and had a bunch of brass that the primer would not fit in the pocket.

Does some 44 Mag brass have a crimp?

Never heard if crimped primers in 44, 454 casull is small rile primer and i get them mixed with 44 brass quite often. Is it mixed range brass?

No crimps, just tight pockets. They'll fit. Chamfer the pocket just a tad if you're concerned.

I've never heard of anyone using SPP for .44 Mag, but I suppose anything is possible. For what it's worth, the 50 or so pieces of Herter's .44 Mag I just pulled out are all large primer and they were purchased new within the last year.

Someone left behind a box of S&B 44 mag brass at the range so I took it home with me. Talk about tight primer pockets. I tried to prime one with my RCBS hand primer but the primer would not budge into the pocket.

I ended up running all the cases through my RCBS swaging die which fixed the problem.

I have to prime mine with my old Lyman Spartan C press. I couldn't, touch them with my Lee hand autoprime.

Yeah, that's for sure. Another one that comes to mind is S&B. Sometimes I feel like I need a jackhammer for those!

The brass head stamp is HRTRS (top) 44 REM MAG (bottom) with some symbol on the right hand side. The symbol is like a O with some funny scribbly line on the outside of the O.

The primers are Winchester WLP for Standard or Magnum Large pistol

I've never noticed tight pockets priming on my RCBS priming die. Using that die, I could probably stuff a LP into a SP pocket and never notice. I've accidentally primed crimped pockets, in fact I do it quite frequently, and never notice more than a slight increase in resistance.
