I walked into the local gun shop and impulse bought (put on layaway) a Redhawk in .44 mag. Just wondering if any of you have scopes mounted on the Redhawk or what are the best options that will withstand the recoil.
Thanks,
Shovel

Actually, the Redhawk has such a massive frame, the recoil isn't as bad as you would expect. But any decent handgun scope is fine. I had a Leupold 2X on mine.

Thanks for all the quick answers. I guess I have another question about the mounting. I have a Super Redhawk that has the scope mount rings and I didn't notice those on the redhawk. Since it's still on layaway so I can't take an up close and personal look at it. Do I have to get an adapter or rail or something similar?
Thanks in advance,
Shovel

Something I have been considering for quite some time. I have several friends who buy the Super Redhawk "for hunting" and even tho they like them, they don't shoot them that much. Sight them in for "Hunting" but hardly ever take a shot. No problem there, each to their own.

My question to them is, when you do take a shot, do you shoot single action or double action???

Their answer is Single action and I ask the question, then why did you spend the extra money on a Super Redhawk when you could have bought a Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk?

Darn sometimes it is a puzzler and I know I am not the brightest bulb in the box.

Weigand makes a good base, and depending on your barrel length, there may be one available that doesn't require drilling and tapping. I have a "no drill" Weigand base on my 5.5" RH. Nice setup.

Only one 7.5" .44M RH, the KRH-44R, comes scope ready (integral mounts) with the rings included. Other models would probably take a rear sight replacement rail - which wouldn't be as stable - or a custom mounted rail, requiring drilling & tapping. I had a 5.5" SS .45 RH - and would never consider scoping it. My 7.5" .454 SRH came scope ready with rings - a natural for a scope. I used a fixed power 2x28mm Weaver H2 - stood up well, too. The SRH is long gone - but here I recycled that scope on a Weigand SS rail easily/quickly mounted in lieu of the rear sight on my current production 6" 629 .44 Magnum:

A few words about a handgun scope. First - that huge eye relief, allowing you to hold the handgun in a classic two hand hold - or extended one hand - and still see a sharp reticle. Of course, adjusting that eyepiece for your dioptic needs is a plus - be sure your safety glasses are 'in place'. Also, a fixed sight is: something else not to go wrong, sharper, and inherently brighter than a 'zoom' style scope. And - less is more... in power! Seriously, if you are like me, the 2x is plenty - that reticle - and focusing it with the eyepiece adjustment - makes distance shooting better for my prebsbyopic eyes... I don't need to see a fruit fly on Thumper's nose at 100yd! My first handgun scope was a 2x28mm... my second was identical! Good luck.

PS I forgot to mention... some folks plan ahead - all S&W revolvers with adjustable rear sights - for many years - have come from the factory drilled and tapped for a rail.
