I rec'd a SW 44 mag from my father's estate....i am having alittle problem adjusting the rear sights (left - right) ...i can adjust the up / down by loosening a small screw in front of the rear sight mount, then adjust the screw for up / down but can not seem to move the left / right sight...

question, is there a trick to getting it to move....another screw etc. that has to be loosened?

btw...can the cykinder come out like on the SA's or do they just flip to one side....

What model gun do you have? Can you post pics? On all my S&W pistols the rear adjustable sight has one screw in the top of sight which you turn Clockwise to go Down and CCW for Up. There is another screw in the right side of rear sight which moves the blade left/right for windage. CW is Right; CCW is Left. None of my sights have a Locking screw and a separate adjusting screw. Each screw is self locking with a small click detent that you can feel when turning the screw.

Good shooting and be safe.

SW model 29-2

yes it sounds like yours...but turning the left / right screw is hard that i do not want to break it off...

Pretty common problem on S&W windage screws. LUBRICATE the screw liberally. It won't break off unless it's damaged.

On my S&W .44 mag's, the entire rear sight assembly is held onto the receiver by two screws in the topstrap. If your sight breaks or is kaput, buying and installing a replacement is no big deal. I have removed two such sights on a pair of S&W M629's on which I have installed scopes.

Good shooting and be safe.
