44 magnum loads & 240gr lead bullets??

My best loads for my 44 rifles (Win 94 Lever and Ruger Deer Stalker) and pistols (S&W M29 and Ruger Super Blackhawk) use WW P230 and H110(Same Powder) 2400 and Unique were very dirty in my guns, no matter what primer I used. Look for a Speer #8 Manual-it has some great 38/357 and 44 Mag loads in it.

Just make sure the "Smashers" are the correct diameter. The .44 Handgun barrels are SAAMI listed as .429", for rifles the SAAMI dimension is .431". Cast bullets are normally sized .002" over groove diameter. Slug the barrel and mic the bullets...

+ 1 on this slug your barrel size is king as far as leading. or see if you can get
some size samples .43o .431 .432

Most commercial casters will cast at .001" over. For instance 45 acp will be .452" if lead.
Not all commercial casters will stick to "supposed to be" dimensions. The easiest way to be sure is to measure them. Simple. Every reloader using cast lead bullets should have micrometers...

"....hawk) use WW P230 and H110(Same Powder) 2400 and Unique were ver...."

WW P230 or Olin 230 is very, very close to the current 231 or HP38 and a long way from H110. H110 is the (stated) other name for 296.
Olin 230 and 630 were dropped in the 70's. 231 was released, but nothing for the 630. I burned all of my 230 up long ago and switched to 231. Still have some 630. I squeeze it for my 'OH YEA' jacketed .44 Mag loads and select loading in the 300 BlackOut (works great).

2400, both old and new, will leave little ash balls in the barrel. They blow out with a good wind. Lighter loading of Unique are a bit dirty.

The old all time standard for 245/250 grain Keith cast hard bullet with 2400 was something over 18 or so grains, that is more than I want. I find 17 1/2 grains under 240 grain cast does well with no leading. (In my weapons.)

I have pushed 240 grain cast with 231/HP38 to 1175 FPS (before pressure shows up - hard extraction, still no leading).
