Can anyone recommend some factory or handloaded 44 mag loads for a Ruger deerfield carbine - I love this gun and want to hunt deer with it next year. All I have used so far is 240 grain win jsp white-box. I realize length can be a problem in the ruger's magazine, but are extra power loads ok for this gas-operated rifle? Curious about the buffalo bore's too?

Your best bet would be to contact Buffalo Bore and follow their reccommendation on the use of their ammo. First thoughts are it shouldn't be used in a Deerfield Ruger. It may be loaded long for the single action revolvers. It isn't to SAAMI specs neccessarily. You could have a Marlin 444 for the price of the Ruger and have a more versatile rifle. The factory loaded 44mag ammo will do quite nicely if you use the most accurate product. Semi autos can be finicky in the pressure dept for reliable function. To load hotter then reccommended can only be good for 5yds extra effectiveness in the real world. It is best to stick with jacketed bullets to negate a gas port clogging potential problem. Just my thoughts on this:)
