The Hornady XTP 240 grain (1685 fps) proved a less than stellar performer on deer this past Fall out of my Ruger M-77/44. Yea, dead is dead but two pass through lung shots at 60 yards still left me with a 100 yard chase. I'm changing to the 225 grain FTX at 1730 fps. Shots haven't exceeded 75 yards in 40 years. Does anyone have real world experience with this bullet in 44 magnum on deer?

I use this on hogs amost daily out of a M77/44 and in heavy brush an old Ruger .44 mag carbine....kill lots of big hogs daily....best ammo I have found both effective wise and price wise.....anyway, a pig shot anywhere especially in the gut is gonna die....tried lots of other .44 mag ammo, this seems to work the best...just my opinion.
