.44 Starr Revolver Paper Cartridges

Made some special paper cartridges for my Starr Single Action Revolver. These cartridges are kinda special, the loading port that Pietta gives ya is very small so it takes a different bullet.I use a 160 grain flat point bullet that I in turn rebate the base in my Lyman sizer to .439 that way it will go into the cylinder and fit under the loading lever. The rest of the bullet is .452,it has a lube band but I still use a lube pill. All my paper cartridges I fit with a .375 pill all it needs to keep running.Powder charge is 30 grain of my home made powder.Lots of smoke but plenty of power for that light bullet. The Single Action Starr is an excellent pistol after I finished the fitting that Pietta doesn't do.I just wish somebody made a conversion cylinder it would be one of the best pistols in my possesion.I also have a Double Action that works just as good or better.Lot of people dog um but there just like the rest of the Italian guns they need some work

Good job. Great information. One of these days I'm going to come out of the 'Dark Ages' and start rolling paper cartridges.

I see why you like that revolver. :)

Washbuster!
Those Starr revolvers have character and heft all their own. If I ever run across a Double Action that I can afford, I will have to add it to the rest of my horse pistols. Top drawer job on the cartridges as well.
regards!

Nice Washie! I wonder why Pietta did away with these? Always heard the double actions were finicky but the single actions too?

Always liked the "look" of the Starrs, both single action and double action revolvers!

Here's the modified loading port. It now accepts the 200 gr. round nose bullet I make. Again it has a .439 rebated base. Those carts are for my test today.

Maybe a video later showing function

i have a single action STAR and have nothing but good to say about it.

Good morning,
I spoke to Dixie Gunworks a couple of days ago and they plan to start selling the Starr revolvers again. When I pressed for some kind of date as to when, they did not know. Depended on Pietta the rep said. So, a little better than nothing is something.
regards all!

Nice job.

What lube do those bullets have? It almost looks like a lube intended for smokeless. If so, and you replace it with a BP-friendly lube you might be able to skip the lube pills.

So... just like the Colt Python replicas?

I wouldn't trust a single damn word from the Pietta rep's mouth.

I'd love to own a single action Starr, but not the double action ones, too many issues and potential problems.

I pray to God this does pan out, would be a welcome reprieve from the endless parade of Colt and Remys... but I won't hold my breath!

Good evening,
Found a Pietta Starr DA on Gun Broker. I bid and got it for what I could afford. The gun is new\old stock per the Seller and only has a couple of scratches up by the hammer slot. Otherwise, N.I.B.. I'll take pics when it gets it. Cooldill, I love complicated revolvers ( LeMat! ) so this beauty should fit right in.) I hope you find your Single Action version. The lines on it are more beautiful than on the DA for sure.
regards!

Nice. I hope these things of which you speak will someday come to pass.

Still not holding my breath. Those...LIARS... at Pietta have been known to pull sneaky tricks before...

Guys I did my own emailing to Dixie asking if they really were going to be receiving new Starr revolver from Pietta. This is there response:

Dear ********,

I spoken with Pietta concerning the Starr Revolvers and was informed that they would still produce this item. However it will probably be around 6 to 9 more months. Please check back with us later in the year. We will have them on the web page as soon as we receive a shipment.

Best Regards,
********

So... we shall see. I hope like heck this is really going to happen. So many historic cap and ball designs, yet the only thing anybody cares about or offers are the "Colts n' Remys" by and large, or their derivatives.
