Hope I have right forum.

Does anyone have these cartridges ?

In process of id'ing 5 old casings (broken, deformed. etc.). Consulted with local expert and we concluded 2 are .45-60, 2 are .45-70, and 1 is .44-40 (it is only one with head stamp - "WRA Co / 44 WCF").

.45-60's might be .40-60, but he said not enough taper to be that. Only uncertainty is that I measured primer pocket od with digital caliper and got .180 and .190 - it is difficult to get accurate measure. IF primer pockets are that size, it would mean Small Rifle (.175 - which is what the .40-60 is [Barnes]), but .45-60 is Large Rifle (.210). I think my measures are not that accurate because I also got .180 on the .44-40, but that has Large Pistol (.210).

The definitive answer would be the taper ratio. I marked length mid-point on one .45-60 case (excluding rim), measured diameter with digital caliper, got .458, divided by base diameter .507 and got taper mid-point ratio of .9034.

If anyone has a .40-60 (and a .45-60), I would appreciate if you could do similar measurements and I'll compute the taper ratios.

Many Thanks, taxifolia
