Ain't this interesting, at least to me? Anybody remember the first season of "Longmire" TV series? They introduced the .45-70 as a murder weapon, and said that it should be easy to track down because it "was an antique caliber" and not used much nowadays. Wow, did they get that wrong!!!

With the exception of Big Bang Theory, I doubt most screenwriters have either the inclination or the budget to bother getting expert advice on the topics they incorporate in their plots.

i think over 90 percent of the older winchester and marlin rifles and carbines had straight butt stocks and seemed to work ok. eastbank.

Having lever-action rifles/carbines in both, I don't find the difference to be anything important, really. Both are fine with me.
I suppose cosmetically you could have a more definate opinion if you cared.

Doesn't really matter much to me. When I was actively hunting I used a variety of rifles with both designs. So I guess either and or. The upper rifle in the below image was always one of my favorites for West Virginia and with the new Ohio rifle laws would be one of my go to guns for Ohio. Ruger 44 Magnum carbine. Also, while I have a few I don't generally scope guns I expect to shoot 100 yards or less.

I thought about getting the new ruger 44mag but after hitting a doe at almost 100yards last year with the 45-70 and her not running and hitting the dirt I said ehh ill stay with that.

Own several of both. Perfectly happy with a pistol grip stock, but straight stocks seem to fit me better and shoulder faster. Probably something to do with my build.
