45/70 Pet Load

Looking for some insight for a 45/70 Handirifle load. Bullet will be the 300 gr Sierra HP and will be used for whitetails here in Mississippi. Load data will be double checked against published data as I don't load beyond this.

I shoot 47.0gr or IMR 4198 under a 300gr hornady interlock. I just got done shooting some of these today. This load shoots great, but is a little rough on the shoulder in a single shot. I have had great performance out of this load on deer.

I shoot this in my encore pro hunter with 20" katahdin barrel.

When I shot the 300 gr I used 46 grs IMR 4198 but now I use the 350 gr FN and use 44 grs IMR 4198. Out of my guide gun this load will clock at 1800 fps and shoots a 3 round group of about 1 1/2" at 100 yards.
