On the usual hunt for *versatile* powder for my Sharps .45-70. I've found that Ramshot X-Terminator might be useful for a wide variety (300-500gr lead) of cast bullets. So the question is: does anyone have any yays or nays about it? I'm currently using A5744 and H4198. Is X-terminator easy to meter? sensitive to exact charges? close to full fill? Those sort of comments.

Ramshot describes it as .223 and .308 tactical rifle powder. WAG that my rifle doesn't fit that category, but the Ramshot loading data shows it useful for a wide range on bullet weights, both standard pressure and higher pressure, lead and jacketed.

-jb, what sayeth?

LOL, yu-up, true dat Dennis.
But, sooner or later they get empty. Yeah, yeah, I know, buy jug$ o_O Consider that since they are the 2 best (sorta knew that), they are the mostest difficultist to findist ;)

The goal is spreading out the appropriates, when becomes necessary to replace the bests.

-jb, you've never steered me wrong

I can only answer one of your questions - it's a ball powder - meters like water. It's my primary powder for bulk loading 22 and 20 centerfires.

I found this data on another forum I used to belong too and had it book marked it was quite some time ago. So it is up to yo to decide whether to use it or not, I have not tested this data yet.

Bullet Type, Bullet Weight, Bullet Diameter, COAL, Powder Type, Powder Charge, Primer Type, Muzzle Velocity

Reduce by 10% and work up slowly watching for signs of excessive pressure or velocity.

TAC has a burn rate similar to H4895. Those powders are pushing the slow end of utility for the 45-70. X-Terminator is a better suited powder. Although suitable loads for the 45-70 could be developed with TAC, it is evident that the two sources I know of chose X-Terminator to develop loads for the 45-70.

Cemetery21 / ms6852, we have semi-winners
Thanks one and all. I have access to a lot of loading data for it. So I seldom ask for specific loading data. It's more about experiences with the component and it's "workability" for lack of a better word. So a ball powder that "meters like water" is eminently helpful.

ms6852, that's a lot of data and a lot of work to gather and present it. Thanks for your efforts. I had to search for TAC, as it's not part of my search. Your comment "two sources I know of chose X-Terminator to develop loads for the 45-70" is heading right toward my workability questions

-jb, I'll post results if I try the powder
