I am wondering as a somewhat person new to handguns how much difference there would be with comparing the following:

A 45 loaded with say 180 grain HP's

or

A 9mm loaded with 147 grain +p HP's or Hydro-Shocks

May be a silly question but just wondering.

Well, the 200 gr CCI HP round has a good reputation.

The 147 9mm reps were spotty. If you want the 147 gr in a 9mm, then I would opt for the Hydrashok round. Does what it should do.

What kind of difference? Recoil? Stopping power?

personal opinion pretty much. both will do the same job but the .45 will do it slightly better (have you seen the size of those bullets! )
