.45 acp/ lead questions.

I am getting ready to relocate back to my home state of SD from the state of MN (where no suppressors are allowed).

I am looking to get started with a can in 45acp as most of my handguns are this caliber and it can be used for my 9mm's as well.

I have it narrowed down to a AAC- TiRant 45S and a Silencerco Osprey. I have a local dealer in SD who stocks both so I plan on fondling them before I decide.

Is it acceptable to shoot lead bullets through either of these? I reload 45acp and cast my own lead projectiles. I am looking for input/previous experiences from people who have used suppressors and lead projectiles in the past.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most definitely not with the Osprey, Don't know about teh TiRant, but unless its easy to take apart for cleaning, lead bullets are not a good idea in a suppressor.

Won't hurt anything, but they'll fill up pretty quickly with little bits of lead debris.

The Sparrow is made to be very easy to clean, and while .22lr is dirtier than my lead reloads, IMHO its jacketed bullets only in cans that don't come apart for cleaning.

Wally - I can see the value of finding a suppressor that can be fully disassembled for cleaning. However my 45 lead loads don't lead the barrel don't see you they would deposit any lead in the suppressor.

My .22 lr don't lead the barrel either, but look what ends up in the suppressor!

There are bits of melted lead that come out with the bullet, this is what you don't want accumulating in a suppressor that can't be easily disassembled for cleaning.

It's your can, shoot what you want, but lead bullets are not recommended for cans that are not made to come apart easily for cleaning.

Shooting lead bullets in a can is like spray welding no matter what caliber you shoot always shoot in a take apart can

While I'll be among the loudest voices complaining about the over-reaction to lead toxicity, once you've turned it into lead acetate I'll shut up about it, as you've made them correct!

Unless you've got a hazmat disposal source that will accept this very toxic sludge solution, forget about it!

Why are you worried about it at least once a month Ft Worth has free collection spots all over town you bring your stuff and drop it off and walk away and its FREE

Several places do this i would look into it if i were you

Lead acetate is only one way to die in this world lol

A mix of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Dissolves lead, but forms highly toxic lead III acetate.
