I have a ton of mixed brass and 231 powder, looking for a load with 250gr LRNFP or 255gr SWC. I am looking for a real "heavy and slow" load.

Edited to clarify the one load "heavy and slow" not 2 loads "real heavy" and "slow"

My heavy load with a 255 swc and w231:

THIS LOAD EXCEEDS PUBLISHED DATA I HAVE SEEN THOUGH IT IS SAFE IN MY S&W 625; USE AT YOUR OWN RISK OR NOT AT ALL

is 6.2 gr for a VERY consistent 900 fps--that's from a 4" sixgun. I find it to be just about a perfect balance of controlled shootability and power.

I don't use 231 is reduced loads 'cause it leaves a nasty gummy residue that wreaks havoc with a revolver. Oh, wait; you mean ONE load that's BOTH heavy and slow? Oops--that one's heavy, but not slow.

brian, did you read this month's dillon blue press catalogue?

Yes I did, but I have been thinking about this since I saw an article in some mag about the 45 ACP being better than the 45 Colt, because the Colt is so oversize due to it being designed around Black Powder.

I was thinking about 4.8 gr or 5 for a nice plodder about 800fps????

i was thinking about trying a few after reading that article. i've been using 200g L-SWC for the past 5000 rnds or so, but am open to suggestions.

let me know if you're able to replicate that guy's experience. i'm anxious to try it too
