Hello,

So i'm loading up a few 45 acp with my 230gr RN FMJ and using my only powder atm "Unique.

My books state the starting load is 5.0 (700fps) in one book and 5.2 (750fps) in another book. I'm trying to get in the range of 800FPS for a range load.

Anyone have any ideas or recommendations for Unique powder to get around 800fps?

Was thinking to try around 5.2, 5.4 and 5.6 grains..

Thanks.

Sometime back I screen scraped this from a 1911Tuner post, "6.2 grs Unique w/ 230 JRN bullet provides a near-perfect duplicate for GI hardball at about 830-840 fps." Don't use Unique myself.

I use Unique for all my auto pistol loads and im putting 5.6 in my 45 ACP and its right around 800. I don't remember the exact number, and I can't for the life of me figure out why I don't keep better records.

that's pushing a cast bullet out of a Lee TL452-230-2R. it's supposed to be a 230 gn bullet but after the tumble lube they weigh around 245

Just for information sake: I have found, after loading .45Auto for 40 years that for normal bullets (lead or jacketed) from 185-230gn, that 5.0gn and 6.0gn of Unique seem to always give the best accuracy.
As far as a given charge weight producing a given velocity, let's look at 6.0gn of Unique and Sierra JHP in different guns.
#1 6.0gn 895fps
#2 6.0gn 853fps
#3 6.0gn 870fps
Not too bad.
Now for my data at 6.1gn:
#1 6.1gn 850fps
#2 6.1gn 728fps
#3 6.1gn 658fps
#4 6.1gn 732fps
#5 6.1gn 950fps
(numbers don't refer to the same gun, just the order I have in my log for different guns)
Thus, my data says that, on average, you need 6.1gn for 800fps, but look at the data and you'll see that it is entirely gun related.
