I was loading some 45 ACP earlier and I ran onto some cases I picked up at the range obviously from someone else - The headstamp is WIN NT 45 AUTO, but the primer pocket is definitly not for a large pistol primer. Anyone know what these are?

Anyone know if there is a way in the search function to specify all of the keywords? I looked for WIN NT and only got hits on WIN.

NT = Non Toxic = no lead or other heavy metal in the priming compound.
It is a standard .175" diameter small primer cup and can be reloaded with conventional primers even though Winchester and some Internet Timid Experts will tell you it cannot or at least should not be done.

The problem is in sorting them out and deciding if you have enough to be worth the trouble to handle them separately. Most loads will give 25-40 fps less than normal.

Federal NT also uses small primers but they are heavily crimped and you will have to go to the extra trouble of reaming or swaging out the crimp. Even in 9mm and .40 which use small primers in all cases.

The search on this board will not accept less than three characters.

Thanks, Jim. I'll just throw the five I picked up in the odds jar.

And I thought those WIN NT loads were from Microsoft...

Maybe we'll see XP from Hornady and Vista from someone else. Use to shoot your computer.
