Lead 200 Gr SWC, 5" 1911, 5.5-5.6 Gr W231 - 870 FPS for me, IIRC, about 825 FPS makes the PF for IDPA. I run higher to account for temp and chrono variances.
I am really interested in WST info. I have tested some loads in my 5" DW heritage and it really likes 4.6 gr WST, 200gr LSWC, 1.245" OAL but I do not have a crono to check the velocity. I am concerned I am running close to the min power factor and wanted to see what others were achieving with this load or what was needed to achieve power factor.
Hodgdon Data starts at 4.4 gr : 830 fps to 5.1 : 910 fps. This leads me to believe I am close.
I like WST in .45, but do not use it at that power level. No reason it could not be, I just don't do it. Book data is fine, and someone posting a load could be helpful, but it is still their gun, and not yours.
This past summer we had a crono stage set up at one of our local USPSA matches. I shoot 5" 1911 Kimbers, using 4.8gr of WST or 5.6gr of W231 with 200gr SWC.
5.4 gr W231 with 200gr Precision SWC averaged 768.9fps, or 153.78PF
4.8 gr WST with 200gr Precsion SWC averaged 830.5fps or 166.1PF
WST is inversely affected by temps, hotter the temps, the slower the PF.
