Hi, I've been reloading .45 colt for about a year so I would consider myself a " novice" reloader but I have not ventured out much from my typical load of 8g of Unique behind a 250g lead cast bullet. Last weekend a box of Nosler jacketed hollow point for something new to try. Later when looked in my book I found that Nosler doesn't list Unique in there data.

So now I'm kinda stuck with what I can do with these bullets. I would gladly go get a powered that they list but powder is hard to come by right now. So I ask you what are my options here?

Welcome to the forum.

Nosler does list data for their 250 grain bullet, but it's under the Ruger/TC Contender listing. You'll find it here: http://www.nosler.com/nosler-load-data/45-colt-ruger-tc-contender-encore/

You can use their start data, or even a little below, if you're loading for a SAA/replica.

They also have those bullets as factory 2nds for a good price at the Shooter's Pro Shop, which is their factory outlet. Here's the link to the bullets: http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-products/nosler-blemished-2nds.html?caliber=52

Hope this helps.

Welcome to THR!

If the firearm is a Ruger/TC pressure rated gun, just use that data. Other wise find some powder that has published data for those jacketed bullets that is pressure acceptable for your gun.

BTW, I love those Nosler's, good all around bullet for the money.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies guys. I'm loading for a Circuit Judge so staying within saami specs is the key.

One particular concern crossed my mind regarding cast lead data v.s. jacketed data that I thought I would mention. Lead bullets use different data, than do jacketed bullets. Now bear in mind, I don't load lead bullets. But from what I understand, is that because jacketed bullets require higher pressures, thus heavier powder charges, because of significantly increased friction, so wouldn't lead data present a risk? I'm referring to the possibility of sticking a jacketed bullet in the barrel with lead data.

It's not necessary to have data for the exact brand of bullet you're loading. You can use data from a similar bullet with the same profile and composition.

Alliant has 45 Colt load data using Unique for a 250gr Speer GDHP bullet and they list a max charge of 7.8gr. That sounds a little light but it is what they list. That would make the starting charge weight 7gr.
