I believe that black powder. .. may be a good way to go...no worries about pounding that toggle
link ... You can also shoot jacketed bullets, which will keep the bore pretty clean with repeated shots.
You didn't mean shooting BP with jacketed bullets to keep the barrel clean... did you ?

If you want to hot rod it get a Marlin.

So you are saying it will run all right in my 1984 Marin Cowboy Limited???

This ammo is really hard to find locally. I bought some Leverevolution for hunting but learned that they are nothing special as far as deer hunting goes. I am looking for a round that will give a me extra confidence when used for big game.....

I get complete pass throughs on Michigan whitetails shot in the heart/lungs with Cowboy action loads in my 1873. I bought several boxes of this stuff a few years ago so I would have the brass for reloading. My plan was to use a good cast bullet and step it up a little bit which I haven’t done yet. I think if you keep your shots inside reasonable ranges you would have little trouble taking larger game. Plus your Marlin will handle hotter loads than the 1873. Just my opinion for what it’s worth.

What do you think, 100 - 150 yards maximum?

I’d say 100 would be my max considering the trajectory of the 45 Colt and the fact I shoot iron sights or peep sights on these types of rifles. Realistically the places I hunt shots would be 50 and less.

Yes. The Marlin is a good for another 10,000psi over a Ruger Blackhawk. The modern 1892, 10,000psi beyond that.

Agreed! To cover 150yds, you really need .44Mag or "Ruger only" .45Colt velocities.

I think it should provide plenty of punch out of the rifle barrel without needing +P. I'd have to be up against something really monstrous to feel like I needed more.

This may be ignorance and I apologize, where does the big boy steel frame fit in on the scale of action strength/appropriate for hotter loads?

Henry says this:

"Our Big Boy's can handle all the +P pressure out there even Big Buffalo Bore ammunition as long as the rounds are not to big (over 270 gr.) to feed through the action."

It's like a smaller version of a 336 action for what that's worth.
