Hey there fellas!! :

What do you think ? could one safely rebore a 45 Colt Handi to 460 S&W?

I would also be interested in hearing your thoughts on the 460 in general.

I realy don't need a 460 but "need" rarley has anything to do with the issue.

I wonder what kind of accuracy you could expect from a 45 Colt fired in a 460 chamber?

I don't think it would be a safe conversion.

The .460 S&W is rated at 65,000 PSI MAP by SAAMI.

That is a LOT more pressure then any other cartridge NEF is chambering them for.
They do now offer a barrel in .500 S&W, but it is a 50,000 PSI cartridge.

I think the increased pressure of the .460 S&W, combined with the huge increase in breach-face thrust from the big case, would probably take one apart eventually, if not right away!

I wouldn't do it!

NO! The 460 specs as posted before run in the same range as the Ultra Magnum rifles. I have not seen any lever action that can withstand these pressures (yet) perhaps a built marlin, but typically only single shot or rolling block rifles.

It would be interesting to see in a bolt action of some sort, but then it gets kinda outclassed rather quickly.
