I am trying to find a 45 Colt load using W296 and Hornady 250 XTP bullets for a Ruger. My manuals have loads for H110 but not w296.

Anyone see a load for this powder 250 XTP in 45 Colt?

I was hoping to hear they were the same powder. I will use the H110 data then. Thanks!!!

I've shot quite a few of those loads in my NM Blackhawk.
I've went from 22 grains up to 26 and let me tell you, you know you've got ahold of something when you get it up to 26.

Be sure and put a good roll crimp on them and use a magnum primer.

I will put this here just in case someone new to reloading reads this:
THIS LOAD DATA IS WAY ABOVE SAMMI SPECS FOR .45 COLT AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN LARGE FRAMED RUGERS, FREEDOM ARMS OR T/C FIREARMS.

What barrel length and did you chrono the 26 gr load?

7.5" barrel.

I did not chrono the 26 grain load.
I did run some 24 grain loads through a chrono (the one time I was shooting with some relatives who have one) and IIRC they were clicking along at just over 1250 fps.

I believe that is correct but couldn't swear to it.

Hodgdon has 26.5 grain loads running at 1455 fps. Personally I think that's a little optimistic, from a 7.5" tube anyway.

WLP and a good roll crimp. I've found most loads along the min max ladder will shoot better than I can.

Just a note-

Those loads are not for new model Vaquero.

Also the XTP is .452 diameter, might want to check your cylinder throats.

Back in the day W296 and H110 were treated as two different powders, maybe they were slightly different, don't know. But in today's reloading world they are considered as the same exact powder, to which I use one's data for the other. Hodgdon shows them as the same powder on their web site, so you can feel comfortable about doing the same.
