Kind of excited about this!! It looks like I will have a .45 Colt Winchester Trapper to add to my .44 mag Trapper in the very near future.

I have wanted one of these for a LOOONNNGGG time, but they are a bit hard to find.

Should be the perfect companion to my Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt. I think it will do really well on Hogs and Whitetails with 325 grain hard cast loads!!

Any of you guys have any experience with the .45 Colt in a lever gun?

Tom

I shoot the 325's out of my Ruger Bisley a lot..

They are awesome on hogs. I can only imagine with they would do out of a longer tube. I get total penetration with my Ruger out to about 40 yards or so. That is about as far as I will shoot it.

You have to be mindful if hunting around dogs as you can easily shoot through a pig and kill a dog on the other side. I generally load up some 300 Grn. XTP's at about 1000 fps when hunting with dogs. It will still drop a hog, but has less shoot through probability. We mostly attack the hogs with knives now, but we always pack a handgun and often a saddle carbine of some sort. On the last trip I took, hogs began to run everywhere as soon as we let the dogs out. I missed a really nice boar because I did not have a rifle with me. I won't let that happen again.

I would suspect that you got yourself a mighty hog killer there.

Have lots of fun and post some pictures of the damage,

Matt

I have one. I shoot the hot Buffalo Bore / Doubletap ammo - it really is a thumper with that ammo!

None yet but a Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited in .45 Colt that I ordered arrived at my local gun shop today so I'll be picking it up in the morning. :D You have a Ruger Bisley and now I'm looking for a suitable double action revolver in .45 Colt to accompany the Marlin. The two USFA Rodeos in .45 Colt that I ordered from Long Hunter came in last Friday so I'll be seeing those tomorrow. I have to wait two weeks before I can take them home though. :(

Tom, your knives are STUNNING!! I'd love one of those K9 ones with the Bead-Blasted Green Canvas Micarta!!

:)

Go For It!

Oh, sure! Mine is an Interarms 92 Puma - 20" barrel with tang peep sight.

The .45 Colt is a dandy round in a carbine. All those hot 45 Colt rounds that may be a little uncomfortable in your revolver are a little more tame in the carbine, and most of us are way more accurate with a carbine than a handgun anyway :scrutiny: And the Trapper is certainly a handy carbine. Of course, since they don't make 'em here anymore, it's an investment, too.

The only down side of the 45 Colt cartridge is that its rim isn't as large as a .44 Mag/Spec rim. This means extraction can be a problem under less than favorable conditions because the extractor doesn't have such a large rim to grab. That's the party line from shootists, anyway. I personally have never had a failure to extract in my levergun. I rather doubt that unless let the chamber rust and load to 454 Casull level it ever will be a problem.:what:

Those heavy slugs should have plenty of power for whatever you plan to shoot within the practical range of iron sights. Have fun! :D

ECVMatt,
I really like using the knife on them also!!

Here are a few pictures of one of the knives I make... its called the Ultimate Boar Knife.

Tom, that knife is awesome....

How much are those? What material do you use for the blade?

I would love to upgrade my current knife. I am using a Buck/Strider spear point.

Thanks,

Matt
