The post about .45 ACP single action cylinders got me to thinking about something that I have wanted lately. Is anyone currently making/selling a Single Action Army clone that has dual .45 ACP/LC cylinders?

Howdy

Well it ain't a SAA clone, and I bought it a long, long time ago, but my Ruger Blackhawk convertible came with a 45 Colt cylinder and a 45 ACP cylinder. I bought it brand-spanky new in 1975. Didn't even want the ACP cylinder, only wanted the 45 Colt cylinder, but I had to buy the whole deal. I have been shooting and reloading 45 Colt forever, but I never even got around to shooting the 45ACP cylinder until a few years ago. Just not a big fan of 45ACP in revolvers.

P.S. No, the 45ACP cylinder is not for sale.

Thanks for the input, but I am not wanting a Blackhawk. Nothing against them, I just want something more in the lines of a SAA. Don't even really want a Vaquero.

FWIW, I had purchased a new Vaquero in 45 LC several years ago and also wanted a dual cylinder firearm after purchasing. Searched both the Ruger Chat Site, and Gunboker for several weeks until I found someone selling a new Ruger Blackhawk 45 ACP very reasonably. Bought it, checked it's dimensions against the Vaquero cylinder and all were within .001'' of each other with the exception of the front ''cylinder bearing''. 10 minutes work with a fine metal file and my new 45 ACP cylinder fitted perfectly and timing was also perfect. To top things off, my new 45 ACP cylinder in a Vaquero 45 LC shot 1.5'' groups from a rest at 20 yards. So go for it!

For what reason are you not a fan?

I have two convertible Ruger single action revolvers, a Single Six 22RF/22 WMR and a 357 Mag/9x19 Blackhawk. I don't think I have shot a box of 22 WMR in the Single Six. The 9x19 cylinder has never been installed in the Blackhawk since it left the factory and entered my collection. Both cylinders are buried somewhere in my safe and might take a while to find.:)

I bought the Blackhawk because it was the barrel length and frame that I wanted, the 9x19 cylinder just came along for the ride.

I doubt I'd ever use the 45 ACP cylinder in a 45 Colt/45 ACP revolver.

But, I could understand the draw for some of being able to shoot the two different cartridges from the same revolver. It gives some options.

All that said, I have several 45 ACP DA/SA revolvers that use moon clips that I enjoy shooting. So, I do shoot 45 ACP in revolvers.

Just my take on things. Nothing wrong if one disagrees.

dd, if you are asking me why I am not a fan of the Blackhawk and/or Vaquero. I am a fan of them. I have never had an SAA clone and simply want one. As to why I want the dual cylinder .45, it is as simple as I have scads of .45 ACP on hand.

I have mentioned this elsewhere here; I have a Pietta "Great Western II" in .45 Colt/.45 ACP configuration with 4.75" barrel. .45 acp in a revolver is different than from a 1911.
Seems to have a bit more power to it.
