.45 GAP I held my first G37.

Okay many of you know that I am not exactly a Glock fanatic. I do, however, have a lot of respect for the Glock line and think they are truely one of the best bangs for the buck out there.

That being said why the G37. It is as big as a G17 and actually didn't feel all that different then a G21 for me. So it really doesn't seem to make the gun smaller or more comfortable and that and slightly larger capacity are really the only perceived advantages that I see.

I think this guy could be a huge hit overseas where military calibers are not allowed but I just can't see why someone would buy a G37 over a G21, G30 or G36 as all of these models are in .45 ACP and all feel differently in the hand and one or the other should fit well enough.

Don't take this as a bash on Glock, I am just saying that the G37 was not what I expected. I expected a svelte, comfy G19 .45 or something to that effect. What I got was another BAG(Big A$$ Gliock) chambered in a round that has no history and will be insanely expensive for quite some time.

Make mine a G30, thank you very much.

Why do I get the feeling that engineering issues kept getting in the way of the original concept for this pistol, but Giant Ego Momentum kept the project alive?

Somewhere along the line in product development, as they realized that it would not fit in one of the smaller frame sizes, the project supervisor should have given Gaston a reality check and pulled the plug on this baby. I like Glocks, but I keep hoping the G37 will crash and burn, illustrating another case history of business stupidity.

I held one too on Friday....

Twas big...looked at the ammo, twas stubby. The Wilson KZ-45 Compact I also investigated was smaller and fit MY hand far nicer.
Maybe those that cannot have a military caliber will like it.
I do not see the point other than EGO satisfaction.
Yet, some will jump on the bandwagon screaming 'new and improved', I'll just chuckle and clean my 1911.

Cslinger that's an excellent point, that never crossed my mind. THe whole time I've been hearing about the .45 GAP I've assumed Gaston's wanting a cartirage named after himself was the sole reason for the project. For the people of countries like Brazil and Mexico where citizens are limited to .380 the .45 GAP just might fill a roll that is needed.

My dealer has one, $550. Feels like what it is: a G22 frame with a G21 slide on it. Didn't look as incongruous as has been described, the slide was blended effectively to the width of the frame.

The non-US market will benefit.

Others have said the real value in the new round will come in small, CCW-friendly platforms. That may be so, but the use of the wider slide kinda hurts that idea.

If the G37 fails to take the US market by storm , maybe that will hasten the arrival of the long awaited full size, single stack .45ACP G38.

Or maybe it'll piss off Gaston, and "No G38 for you!"

I agree with many of your criticisms, but the cartridge isn't insanely expensive. It's selling for $12 per 50 in many spots. That's not out of line for new manufacture, boxer primed brass cased factory ammo.

Wow that's cheap. I haven't yet seen the actual ammo for sale so I guess they are really trying to keep the prices down but unless they are able to really get some distribution I just don't know if they will take off.

I mean .357SIG has been around for quite some time now and is still not the easiest round to go buy on a whim, at least around here. Sure gunstores have it but most sporting goods stores do not.

It's still a caliber w/ a lot of hurdles to overcome and even just these initial comments from just handling them sounds like the hype w/ pretty accurate. Glock might have done better if they developed that fullsize, single stack 45acp or 10mm.

I'm just trying to figure out why .45 Glock will be big over there, but other cartridges like .40, 357 SIG, 10mm, etc aren't (right?)... Are these banned too?

What I don't understand is how the G36 safely handles the .45ACP, yet the G37 requires the massive G21 width slide? Is the G36 recoil assembly that much more efficient than those on the fullsize? This just seems poorly thought out. If he wanted to change things he should have listened to all the malcontent even with the G37 prototypes at the shotshow, then when everone was whining, brought out a true full size SINGLE stack G36 width except in .45 GAP. I think folks would have been more inspired. I myself was rather disappointed with the end result.

Many Glocksters think they really messed up with this new caliber in their gun.

We were hoping for a single stack 9mm sub sub compact to kill of the Kahr PM9 but Glock "wanted" their name on a round.

Oh well, love my Pm9!

I have both a G30 and a G36. I don't think I'll rush out to buy Gaston Frankenstein's monster. Besides, I'm tapped out after getting a new 1911!!!
