What do you guys think of these guns like the Taurus Judge? I don't think they're for me but there apparently seems to be some HUGE hype over them right now. I just wanted to hear some other points of view. It's a cool idea, for sure..

From infamous flop to famous tool.

The first batch were miserable ... more like a beta-test of the large platform that was not perfectly thought-out, nor well thought of by the gun-owning public. But Taurus had confidence in their market-niche, and it really was a good scheme. So good, in fact, that two major bullet manufacturers began designing shells that would work in the gun, even before it was perfected. And viola the gun is now beyond the "OMG What IS That?" stage. No-one wants to change any befuddled minds here, but maybe trying to find a Judge, et c. at any real discount is pretty hard -- I mean a 3" x 3" version. I like mine -- an early 3"x3" model, and am custom packing the .410 brass shells with ØØØ & copper plus a bit of Cream'OWheat and 3 discs of total 250gr weight, over 18.0gr Alliant 2400. Makes quite a flash, in daylight. In that price range, THAT is something no other wheel-gun can claim! Dao.

I shot one today and it was decent. I felt the trigger pull was heavy on it, but it was fairly new. Personally, I wouldn't buy one, but then, I have no use for it. What can it do that my other guns can't?

It is a revolver I wanted when they were first introduced. Why? For the fun of it. I had visions of shooting a grouse on the jump, shooting clay pigeons, or taking out a rabbit. Have since decided they are mostly snake guns in 410 ga and only so so good in 45LC.

To each their own, I suppose, but I could see little advantage over my .45 AutoRim revolver also capable of firing .45 ACP ball or shotshells either CCI or home loaded with Speer shot caps.

A friend who has a farm has a Taurus Judge as his "tractor gun" and loves it.

The Taurus is certainly prettier than the old Thunder Five .45LC/.410 that I looked at when Top Notch was still in business. That gun was ugly and the most notable use was in the movie "Three Kings" http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Three_Kings#Thunder_5_Pistol

Personally I would prefer a .45LC revolver with .45LC CCI shotshells as snake/pest loads. It might not be as good as .410 from a Judge, but I suspect .45 LC from a dedicated revolver would perform better than .45LC from a Judge.
