I'm thinking of getting into reloading and am interested in getting two new guns in the next year or so. I've already got a M&P9 and a GP100 in .357 mag. I want to get two more guns, but I really don't want my reloading to get too complicated.

First, I'd like to get a Ruger Redhawk in .45 lc. I want to follow it up with an M&P 45.

My question is whether I could buy the same .451 bullets for both .45 caliber cartridges. I've seen some evidence that suggests that this might be possible. I just want to confirm this is possible and recommended before I do anything.

If I have to get separate bullets for .45 lc and .45 acp, it might change what guns I buy.

The diameters are the same. Only problem would be that the 45 ACP bullet must have a nose that will feed. The Colt can also handle heavier bullets than the ACP. You would be able to use any 45 ACP bullet in the 45 Colt.

I cast all my own, and size them .452" for use in either my revolvers or semiautos.

Good luck finding a RH in .45 Colt, they are rare.

I like for my revolver bullets to have crimp grooves, especially for heavy loads.

.45 ACP jacketed bullets are generally .451", and they have no crimp groove at all in keeping with the taper crimp used in auto pistols that headspace off the case mouth..

.45 Colt jacketed bullets are .452", and they are designed for use in a revolver in that they do have a cannulure crimp groove for the necessary roll crimp used in revolver rounds.

The bullets are not the same, and I would suggest you use revolver bullets in revolvers and pistol bullets in pistols.

It's a little different with cast lead bullets.
Generally, .45 ACP are .452", and .45 Colt are .452" or .454", whichever fits the chamber throats best.
You can use the pistol bullets in the revolver by crimping into the smooth lead bullet surface.

Thanks...

The .45 lc Redhawk is a done deal as soon as I find a nice one.

The M&P45 will probably still happen, the other option would be to get a M&P 40.
