45 lc loads

I've been shooting a lot of 200 gr lswc over 6.0 Red dot for a light paper puncher. Pretty accurate in my S&Ws and Rugers. I have heavier bullets, but the paper makes good holes with as little as a 200 gr bullet.

The .45LC is an easy and fun cartridge to load for - from mild to wild. On the mild side, any fast shotgun powder (red dot, Solo 1000, etc.) works just fine. Mid-range loads can be handled quite well with W231, Unique, AA5, and HS6. If your .45LC can handle the slightly higher pressure loads (20k - 23k psi), I have found 2400 and 4227 to work quite well.

Yup. IMO, some of those laws make no sense. For instance...I'm a bullet caster. By the letter of the law, I can't sell or even give any of my bullets away...even though all it entails is transforming an inert chunk of lead into another inert chunk of lead...but there it is.

I don't really see that being enforced unless the BATFE-I-E-I-O is grasping at straws to charge an individual with something...but the law is there regardless.

My favorite .45 Colt load is a 230 grain lead bullet (you could use a 250) with 7.5 grains of Promo powder (cheap variant of Red Dot.) This is hotter than a standard load, but not by a lot, and it is *really* cheap to shoot -- especially cuz I cast the bullets using free scrap lead.

A couple of loads for that rhino you mentioned: 250 or 255 grain cast bullet with 12.2 grains of Herco or 16.5 grains of Blue Dot. You can go even higher with 2400, AA#9, Enforcer, or 296 powders, but 296 is tricky to work with. All of these loads are fun to shoot maybe a dozen rounds, then the fun wears off really quickly. The Red Dot load I gave or some of the midrange Unique or Universal loads, you can shoot them all day.

Also try some blackpowder. .45 Colt was made for blackpowder. But wash the gun with hot water when you're done and then clean it really well.
