.45 Softpoints?

Question: Does anyone make .45 Caliber jacketed soft point bullets, for use in either .45ACP or .45 Colt?

Are there any such bullets that will reliably feed in autoloaders?

What weights can be had?

What velocities should you try for when using softpoints?

I've never seen a 'softpoint' for .45, if by that you mean a *Jacketed* softpoint. I assume the reason is that these calibers operate at velocities well below what a JSP would require to expand at all, and low enough that you can gain the same practical performance from shooting pure lead.

You could shoot a soft swaged lead SWC (or a truncated point lead bullet, for that matter), which would be a 'soft point' in performance, for less money. If you don't want to shoot lead, but want the performance of a flat-topped bullet, I'd recommend looking at plated bullets by WestCoastbullets, Rainier, or Berry's.

If you really want a crushing flat point, use a 255 gr. cast SWC.

Jacketed bullets are too expensive to shoot regularly. A cast or swaged lead bullet will cost you far less. These guys make a good one or buy 'em at a local gun show. A 230 grain flat point or round nose works well. They'll send you a few as a sample too. http://www.nationalbullet.com/
