I have a S&W 4506, very stout overbuilt 3rd gen Smith auto. Its been urtterly reliable and I think I want to play around w/ it some. Ive heard the gun is definately strong enough to handle the 45 super round, but I went on the Ace gun website (who sells 45 super conversions for various makes of guns) and the package they are selling seems way over the top and expensive. Ive read that a simple changing out the recoil springs would be enough to allow the gun to handle the extra recoil however Ace insists that there is more that is needed, but they dont really say why.
So to my question, has anyone done this to a 3rd gen Smith auto specifically the 4506? If so what did you do and how did it work
Thank you in advance
Tom
