Ode to My Smith 4506-1

You're silvery stainless.
To me you're the aces.
You gobble up ammo;
Even eat empty cases.

Your accuracy's flawless.
I tell you no lies.
I spot syrup on my targets
And shoot heads off of flies.

Your function is perfect;
Nary jam or a burp.
I love my 645
You're the best gun on earth.

Just got one, used of course. The 4506-1 is the end of the Smith 645 stainless .45 auto series. And don't forget that awesome 745 target model with the single action trigger and micro adjustable sights.

Ms. Smith eats anything and truly will chamber an empty case. But this is done by careful design of the feed ramp, not extensive throating to weaken case head support.

She's a heavy pistol but very solid; handles +P ammo just fine. I have read that you can fire 45 Super with just a heavy recoil spring but don/t plan to go there myself. Cranking out a roundnose at over 1000 fps is enough for me though I usually fire lighter target loads. Recoil is decent either way, thanks to design and the weight.

Flawless functioning so far. The pistols up for sale now are often police turn ins so they do have some holster rash. You can just ignore this or I buffed my slide shiny with some polishing compound and my moto tool. Looks great.

Got mine with the fixed Novac sights for $400. They are still out there on the auctions and I got a good deal from Robert at Commonwealth Arms in Covington, VA. On the 'net. (No don't work for them. Just a happy customer.)

I keep seeing threads where folks, including me. posted about $400 1911 clones. I went with Ms. Smith instead and am glad I did.

Tom
